Red Earth Estate - History
In October 2000 Ken and Christine Borchardt purchased
an 8.4 hectare property at 18 Camp Road, 8km south of Dubbo,
and established Red Earth Estate Vineyard.
The location was selected for a number of reasons - the
clean environment, the hot dry air and the northerly aspect of
the property with a gentle slope for good drainage and soil
types ideal for grape growing. The property is also located
within the Western Plains Tourist Circuit offering easy access
for visitors to the region.
Only fruit from the Red Earth Estate Vineyard goes into
wine
sold under the Red Earth Estate
label. All Red Earth Estate
wine is estate
grown and estate made.
Now in its eighth year, the winery is crushing approximately
110 tonnes of grapes and producing wine on a contract basis for other vineyards in the region. Although
the winery is capable of producing up to 250 tonnes of fruit
in a vintage, the decision has been made to keep production
small and maintain a hands-on approach, concentrating on
quality rather than quantity.
